Chris Trumbauer — On the side of diversity
"I go to the Martin Luther King, Jr. dinner and breakfast every year," said County Council member Chris Trumbauer, 41, who is receiving this year's Morris H. Blum Humanitarian Award.
He heard news of his award late last year.
"I was kind of surprised. They usually give it to big deal-people like Sen. Barbara Mikulski," he said. "I guess the awards committee appreciates the way I go about my business and interact with people, and try to respect everyone and find common ground. I usually fly under the radar."
As a council member, he has used his power of appointments to "appoint diversity on the Spending Affordability Commission, Arts Council and Board of Appeals."
A big proponent of affordable housing, during his first term on the council, Trumbauer tried to ensure the procurement system "was not stacked against minority applicants and minority firms."
